Nice. I now consider myself a Tory. I've decided the American Revolution stands revealed as a hideous mistake, leading only to misery, genocide, oppression, hypocrisy, and bloodshed on an appalling scale. It need not have been. We could have been... Canada. Greater Canada. Wouldn't we be happier and better off now? Takes some thinking.

Kicking out George III just so two hundred-odd years later we could vote in (or be shanghaied into) a Drumpf dynasty? No, thank you.

Dunno about the Tory thing for me but do wonder if this nation would have been better served as parliamentary democracy.

Also dunno about being Canadian, though do like Canucks, and where I was born and grew up, Upstate NY, is in a few ways like Southern Ontario.

We'd like to explore the possibilities of a second home in Halifax. Canada won't let us retire there full-time (not rich enough, and no other ins), but maybe having a bolthole for six months out of the year wouldn't be a bad idea. A lot rides on what happens in 2024-25, I expect.

I'd MUCH prefer a parliamentary system over what we have today in the US, it's broken beyond repair and so much of the worst aspects are institutionalized. Sigh.
